• Co-creation interface: Unlike the classic chat interface, Canvas gives you a space where you can work directly with ChatGPT on all kinds of content, whether documents, code or other projects. You can make changes in real time while getting contextual recommendations to improve your work.

• Handy tools for writing and coding:

  • Suggested edits: ChatGPT can make corrections and improvements directly, working like a personal editor.

  • Length adjustment: Whether your text is too long or not detailed enough, ChatGPT can change the length to fit your needs, from a short intro to more in-depth content.

  • Adjustable reading level: Content can be tuned to different levels of comprehension, from kindergarten all the way up to college-level texts.

  • Code improvements: For developers, ChatGPT offers tools to debug, add comments or translate code between languages, making collaboration on complex projects easier.

It also lets you view version history, which comes in handy for restoring earlier changes or asking the AI to focus on specific parts of the project. That said, it’s worth noting that Canvas won’t radically change how people with more basic needs use AI. For simple tasks, like answering emails or writing short texts, GPT-4o remains the best fit. But for work that calls for deep thinking, co-creation and repeated revisions, Canvas could well become a valuable tool in your arsenal.

🌟 Meta unveils AR x AI glasses, a new model and much more

At its Connect 2024 conference, Meta showed off a series of fascinating AI innovations, including augmented reality glasses, AI model updates and upgraded features for its apps.

Details:

• The Orion AR glasses prototype weighs under 100g and offers a wide field of view, while packing advanced tech like voice control and hand tracking, the result of more than ten years of development.

• Meta also launched Llama 3.2, its first vision model able to handle both images and text, available in 11B and 90B parameter versions.

• Even smaller Llama models, with 1B and 3B parameters, were announced. These models are specifically optimized for smartphones and could be adapted for future glasses.

• New AI features are coming to Instagram, including automatic video dubbing and lip-syncing for creators, letting them adapt to any language, plus AI-assisted content like ‘Imagined for you’ in feeds.

• Meta also introduced voice mode, a feature similar to ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, letting users talk to Meta AI by voice on Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram DMs.

🎵 Learn to master AI: Generate sound effects for any video

Suno offers a fascinating feature that could change how you approach audiovisual creation. With their platform, you can generate not only all kinds of music, but also custom sound effects (SFX). The idea is simple: you prompt the sound effect you want and let the magic happen in seconds. Find out how here.

Picture yourself creating immersive soundscapes:

• The distant crash of rumbling thunder.

• A futuristic electric car whizzing by with a distinctive hum.

But that’s not all. Since June, this feature has been available to developers through an API. To show off its potential, Suno launched an innovative app: Video to Sounds Effects.

Tutorial steps:

1. Upload your mp4 video file: It’s as simple as that. Once your file is uploaded, the app analyzes its content.

2. Get four sound variations: You can choose from four versions of the audio for your video. Pick the one that best matches your vision.

WHAT THE RESEARCH SAYS

🎮 AI Reinvents Counter-Strike?

Artificial intelligence keeps surprising us with its ability to simulate complex virtual environments. Today, we’re seeing the technology applied to Counter-Strike, showing once again AI’s incredible potential in video games and beyond. After exploring the idea of running DOOM on an AI model (I told you about it in a previous edition), researchers have taken things a step further by simulating Counter-Strike (CS:GO) with a neural network.

Details:

• DIAMOND is the name of the model developed by researchers from the universities of Geneva and Edinburgh, along with Microsoft. It uses a diffusion-based approach, predicting the next frame from previous frames and actions.

• The model was trained on just 87 hours of CS:GO gameplay data, far less than similar projects have used.

• Users can interact with the simulation using a keyboard and mouse, with the AI recreating elements like weapon mechanics and player interactions.

• DIAMOND scored 46% above human level on the Atari 100k benchmark, an impressive performance for agents trained on a world model.

Why I’m telling you about this

What makes DIAMOND matter is its potential applications beyond the game itself. Imperfect as it is, this model could transform fields like robotics, autonomous systems and the creation of virtual worlds. By generating interactive, physics-based environments, it paves the way for new ways to train AI for real-world tasks. On top of that, open-world video game development could be on the verge of a genuine revolution.
