🌟 The Stargate project: AI stirs up debate in the US

An unexpected showdown is playing out between two of tech’s biggest names: Elon Musk and Sam Altman got into a heated exchange on X over the Stargate mega-project.

Project details:

• A colossal $500 billion investment to build out AI infrastructure in the United States

• A heavyweight consortium: OpenAI, Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank and other tech giants

• Gigantic data centers planned in Texas, with a first site already under construction in Abilene

Details:

• A new dedicated team has just been formed at Google DeepMind, led by Tim Brooks (former head of the Sora project at OpenAI), to develop “world models” – AI systems capable of simulating our physical environment.

• The project will draw on massive video and multimedia datasets to create realistic interactive simulations. It will tie into existing projects like Genie, the Gemini AI models and the Veo video generators.

• DeepMind isn’t alone in this space: Nvidia’s Cosmos platform and Fei-Fei Li’s startup World Labs are already developing similar technologies.
